Comment: I think where you chose to travel to is so awesome. I also love that time period and just find it interesting and intriguing to watch, because it’s SO different now; it’s hard to realize life was once like that. I love all the movies that were dated in that time era, like Gone with the Wind, Little Women, and my favorite, Tristan & Isolde.

Comment: I really liked all the destinations you chose to travel to. I think traveling back to biblical times and being able to walk the earth with Jesus and, like you said, be able to validate everything we believe in, would be an unbelievable experience, so I would have to agree on that one. Also, I really liked how you said you wanted to travel back in time to the childhood of your parents; this is similar to mine in that I wanted to visit their high school selves. It would be crazy to see how they acted and what all they don’t tell us.

If I could travel back in time I would first love to visit the medieval times. I don’t know why but I have always been intrigued by the men and women of that era; how they dressed, how they talked, how they presented themselves, and how they treated love so formally, as if it must always be kept a secret. A Knight’s Tale and Robinhood with Russell Crowe are two of my favorite movies. I think it’s cool that they have a King and a Queen and they all gather for jousting matches; it’s all so fasincating to me and to experience that would be so cool.

Another place I would want to visit would be back when my parents were in high school. This would have to be two different time periods considering they’re seven years apart. I would just really love to see how they acted and if they were at all being hypocrites to me and my siblings while growing up. I know my dad’s high school experience would probably be fun to visit, he’s always telling us stories of him and buddies and the trouble they would get into. It would probably just reinerate the fact that my brother is his offspring. I like to picture their high school career as the plot of the movie Dazed and Confused. Granted, I love this movie but I would also love to see if what I think they were like, were actually true.

The last and final place I would choose to go would be my childhood home where I was raised until I was nine. I had the best times there and still think about all the things that happened over those nine years from time to time. It was me, my mom, dad, brother, and sister. It was a little, small, blue house (we called it the “smurf house”) in a nice neighborhood where a lot of our friends lived too. I can still remember sitting on the curb with my dad and siblings waiting on the bus in the mornings, walking our dog (who has now died from cancer) on the morning of my sister’s birthday and it peeing on me, sharing a room with my sister, playing house in our dollhouse my dad made for us, and so many more great memories. Also the fact that we have moved into another house, my sister and I are in college, and my brother now lives in Florida, it’s hardly ever when we’re all together. I really miss those days and would love to travel back to when times were simplier and a lot less complicated.

And if I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t try and change anything that could have affected my future because I believe what’s meant to be will always find a way and I wouldn’t want to mess with God’s fate.

Comment: Wow, a kitten?! That’s so cute. I have to agree with you when you said that you don’t like to hurt other people’s feelings. I am the same way! As I said in my blog, I wouldn’t flat out tell them that the gift sucks because I’m not that kind of person. I would smile and say thank you and tell them that I loved it but you could probably tell that it wasn’t genuine. I also liked your idea about coming up with a quote of some kind for your greeting card company. A short, catchy, to the point slogan goes a long way.

I have very mixed feelings about this day. Since I have never been in a relationship on Valentine’s Day my valentines have always been either my sister, mom, or dog, but since this year, yes still single, was my first valentines day away from home I went out with some of my other single friends. Whenever it is that I will be in a relationship on February 14th, that day will hold a different meaning, but until then I also see it as a day to just acknowledge someone that you love, it doesn’t have to be a significant other. Surprisingly, this day doesn’t bother me that much, like it does other singles, but it sure does make you face the fact that you do not have a significant other when you see all the couples all lovey-dovey, giving each other gifts, and going out to nice dinners.

So since my valentines are either my mom or sister, I usually just get a card with like a little stuffed bear and some chocolates. Like this year, my mom mailed me and my sister a card each with $20 inside. So asking for me to pick my “favorite” valentines present is asking me to pick between a store bought card, a miniature stuffed toy, or a Twix bar. Tough decision I know. It’s the thought that counts though right? So my only gifts are probably my best and worst combined. Theoretically speaking, if I were to receive a gift I didn’t like you could probably read it all over my face. I would say that it’s nice and I loved it but it wouldn’t be genuine and you could tell. I am one to not want to hurt anybody’s feelings. I wouldn’t flat out tell them that I didn’t like it because I hate to make people feel awkward or uncomfortable.

If I worked for a greeting card company, florist or chocolate manufacturer, I would offer low prices and maybe deals containing coupons for 20% a bouquet of flowers or have a raffle for someone to win a “Valentine’s Day dream date”, to try and persuade the public to buy from me and not my competitors,. To enter the raffle you would only have to make a $15 purchase. If you spend over $25 you are also eligible to blindly select a Valentine’s Day themed prize. Also, to weed out the competition, advertising would be a big contributor to the success of the company or store too.

Topic: Um…Can You Not Do That Please??

Comment: I can relate on a lot of those! The first is the people listening to their music too loudly. It usually doesn’t bother me if I’m anywhere but the library. If you’re sitting next to me or even a row over and I can make out the words to the song you’re listening to, we have a problem. This is a library, made for studying and getting work done, so have some respect and turn it down so those things can be accomplished. Another thing you mentioned that irks me too is when girls don’t dye their roots. You look like a skunk and you probably have the worst hair ever because you color it so much. Look in the mirror and get a clue.

Comment: You’re definitely not alone on those. I completely agree with the lying. I can not stand it when I am lied to and then find out about it later through another person. It goes hand in hand with hiding something behind someone’s back too. At the beginning of last semester my roommate wanted to wear my shoes out and I let her. A few days later I wanted them back because I was going out of town and she said that was she about to be late for class and she’d get them to me later. Well, I ended up finding out from my sister that she was just wasting time so she could come back and clean them up because she had fallen in them cut her foot real bad and bled all over them. I was extremely pissed and needless to say, she hasn’t been able to borrow any of my stuff again.

This could not have been a better blog topic for me. Whenever I am annoyed by something I always tell me sister, “THAT IS MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE!” knowing she’s probably taking note. I think the category that most of mine seem to fall under is respect. I was brought up very “traditional”, I guess you could call it. Always being told to say “thank you” when someone does something for you, and “you’re welcome” when someone tells you “thank you”, so for someone to not acknowledge that simple courtesy rule is just pathetic to me. How hard is it to say those two little words that go such a long way? Another simple, short, two-worded phrase that people seem to think is so hard to say is “excuse me”. Whenever I get mad about it and tell my mom, she always brings it back to the fact that, “well Kathleen, not everyone was raised the same”. I just seem to think that everyone was and that politeness is a virtue that most possess. Wrong. Another would be when people don’t say “I’m sorry” or admit to being wrong. Just go ahead and admit that you’ve done something wrong or that you weren’t right, and move on. Everyone makes mistakes; it’s what makes us human. Usually someone will respect and like you more when you do.

On the same topic as respect but zoning in on friends in particular, I hate when you get taken advantage of; either by friends or not so much your friends. No one likes to feel used. It’s a form of lying that can really damage a person and come back to haunt them. What goes around comes around, and I am a firm believer in karma. When someone does something for you and continues to do things for you, expecting it all in return and then for you not to do the same for them when the time comes, is another major one to me. Also, when they say that they’re going to do something or you make plans with them and they never follow through and always cancel. It’s fine if they don’t follow through once or twice but if it’s every time then it becomes a problem and a game of cry wolf. I don’t know when you’re being serious and if you’re ever telling the truth. If you can’t do something and know you wont be able to, then just say it instead of promising that you can and then not.

And the last one, still along the lines of respect, is cleaning up after yourself. Since I’ve come to college, and still with living at home, you should always pick up after yourself and not make others do it for you. Granted, I leave things out a lot, but the thing is, I always have the intention of coming back and cleaning it up myself. But to just leave it out and either not want to put it up or forget about it is beyond annoying. One of my roommates now is very bad about this. She always leaves her cooking utensils out, condiments out, and dishes on the table after she makes dinner for her and her boyfriend. After eating it’s like she doesn’t even think about putting it all away, instead just wallers on the couch with her boyfriend, usually leaving the mess for me and my sister.

I suppose my main issue is with people not treating people equally and not reciprocating good deeds back to those who have. Having manners and respecting one another are two very important qualities to me and wish they were to everyone else, but the obvious and unfortunate truth is, is that they are not.

Topic: The Book Or The Movie…That Is The Question

Comment: I am also a HUGE Twilight fan, love all the movies and watch them avidly. But unfortunatley, I did not read any of the books. All my friends are so disappointed that I never did because they always ranted and raved about how good they were. I think its the size of the book that just intimidates me into not wanting to read it. I couldn’t agree more that Kristen Stewart is probably the most awkward and wierd actress in the movie biz. I do not like her but will support her in the movies, haha. And just to comment on Eat, Pray, Love….that movie was so awful! I couldn’t even sit through the whole thing, I had to change it.

Topic: Read the Book or Watch the Movie

Comment: I think that a lot of the reason why most of us tend to not read books, or as much as we used to is because of what you mentioned in your blog, the fact that we all have very busy lives now and also due to the increase in technology. All the recent advances in cell phones, ipods, ipads, and computers seem to distract us from picking up a book and indulging ourselves every now and then for the better. I’m the opposite of you, I used to not read at all, like hated in middle school and high school when the teachers would make us read books like “To Kill a Mockingbird” for class, but now, as of like a year ago, I have started reading more and more. And to touch on what you said about how you think a lot of people are going to say that they read all the Harry Potter and Twilight books before watching the movies, I didn’t, haha. I am a HUGE Twilight fan, have seen all the movies, but have not read any of the books. I mentioned in my blog about how a lot of my friends are disappointed that I didn’t because they’re all very good. I just think the size of the book intimidates me, haha.

I used to consider myself not much of a reader. It’s just been within the past year that I began reading books for my own pleasure and not because they were assigned to me in school. Of the books that I have started reading for entertainment I tend to like comical and provocative ones, like Chelsea Handler, Tucker Max, and Samantha Bee. Since I just got a Kindle Fire for Christmas, I have been venturing out of that genre and into books like Water for Elephants, The Help, and The Hunger Games. Of those books, Water for Elephants and The Help were made into films just last year, and The Hunger Games will be premiering as a movie March 23rd of this year. It’s becoming more and more popular to take books and produce them into movies. A couple that I can think of that has done tremendously well is Harry Potter and Twilight. I am a huge Twilight fan, but did not happen to read any of the books. Hardly any movies I’ve seen, I’ve read the book as well.

If I had to choose between reading a book and watching the movie, I would, hands down, choose to watch the movie. I know a lot of people would disagree because more than likely, the books are 10 times better and have more details, and the movies apparently seem to leave out a lot of parts. I feel like if I watched the movie and it was really good, I may then go back and read the book. The reason I wouldn’t read the book is because my attention span is very low and I get distracted easily, especially if I’m not into it.

I know I should probably start to read more books that I can actually take something away from and not ones just for comedy purposes, and I think my Kindle will help aid in that goal.

Comment: I’m going to be honest, when I was first reading this I thought it was a little wierd but as I kept reading I understood why it’s on your bucket list. I’ve never heard of that one before but I do think it’s a good one! I too, love to travel, especially to the beach or just to any body of water for that fact. But good luck with that one, I’m sure it’ll be fun!

Topic: My Bucket List

Comment: That is a great bucket list Patty! I too, love traveling and seeing new places. I think it makes us better well-rounded individuals and builds our character to be exposed and experience other countries, heck, even other states. That’s great that you want to one day give back to your parents because they’ve done so much for you. I would like to do the same. They deserve it.

The first thing on my bucket list is to see Ireland. I come from an Irish background and go to a Catholic Church. I went to a Catholic middle school called St. Teresa’s, and every year for St. Patrick’s Day we would get to dress up in green and have a little parade and would go to mass; it was always a fun day. I also love the way Irish people talk and am pretty much obsessed with anything dealing with being Irish, especially pubs. I would love for one day to visit the beautiful place I’ve only seen in movies and pictures.

The second thing on my list is to go to a Georgia, Florida game one year. I am a huge Dawgs fan and have been ever since my brother got accepted to the school in 2005. My parents, sister, and I would go to as many home games as we could and tailgate with him at his fraternity house and go downtown. Now that me and sister are both off at school it’s a littler harder to go to so many games but we did get to go to the GA/AU one this past fall and stay with some of our friends that was real fun. Going to a UGA/FL game would be so incredibly fun I can’t even put it into words. So many of my friends went last year and said that I have to go next time! To get to party on Frat Beach with thousands of people the day before the game and get to go inside Ben Hill Griffin stadium would just be so awesome.

The third thing on my list is to one day get to party on a yacht. This might be weird or even far-fetched but I believe it might happen one day. I chose this because I like to party, drink during the day, love the ocean, and to be able to get to do all of that on a yacht, I know would be an unforgettable time.

Those are just a few things that I would like to do before I die but ultimately, obviously, I would love to find a man that I can’t live without, a career that I love, and a home where I am happy.
